Philips 9007 X Treme Power Headlight
Recently substituted both headlight units on my DD Nissan (bought used, first lenses had started to deteriorate & yellow) but still wanted to improve the low beam output a bit more without melting or destructive the new lights (all plastic) or surrounding wiring.
Did a lot of exploration on the various alternate bulbs that are available. Unfortunately, much of what I found was overwritten, flowery hype on what are in essence “tinted” stock bulbs or simply straightout BS (“Xenon HID 9007 Hyper Purple” for example) and it came down to there only being 3 or 4 `real’ options that would provide a useful betterment in light output on the market.
In checking those, these Philips X-treme Power bulbs seem to have the best combining of increased light output coupled with better longevity, so I bought a pair. While I did not really observe a large improvement driving in built-up areas, there was a noticeable increase in light on dark or underneath lit roads, in all probability around 25-30%, + the light itself was more focused and equally spread compared to the stock bulbs. These are in addition entirely DOT approved and did not seem to emit excess glare.
Overall, I would unquestionably commend them as an inexpensive yet suitable upgrade. As a side note, the bulbs that I received were made in Germany, which was a nice modify from all the Chinese crap that seems to dominate the market.
Much more splendid than the OEM bulbs that were in dad’s car. He’s been avoiding driving at night because his Taurus headlights were so dim and he’s been having upset seeing. Now he’s competent to leave the house.
I installed them in a 1998 Plymouth Voyager, known for poor headlight design. In addition, this car has a lower voltage in the scheme then normal, 12.5 V with the engine running. A big improvement over the old Sylvania usual halogen bulbs. More side coverage, and definitely at least 50% longer. I hope they will last a long time, this car never burned one bulb in 13 years, 170000 miles (maybe due to the lower voltage).
Note: I tried new frequent halogen bulbs after I polished the headlights, and it did assists The X-treme bulbs made the big differences
Changing over to these bulbs is “NIGHT AND DAY” difference! My wife teaches 4th grade and has trouble seeing in the dark to drive as safely as I would like. I swapped to these bulbs and the divergence is amazing! She and I both feel safer when she has to drive before the sun comes up and when she has to work later than sundown. If your vehicle doesn’t seem to be vivid enough in the dark attempt these..you will not be sorry.
Ordered these in “9007 type” for a ’99 Ford Expedition. HID retro kits have NOTHING on these bulbs. Very vivid “USABLE LIGHT”. In low beam, was astonished how vivid they were. High beam, was just astounding for halogen! These bulbs feature the widest even lit beam I have ever seen in front of this truck with a HALOGEN on low beam. Also, the high beam reaches very far into the night and helps turn night into day! Makes dark Georgia country roads and trails a PLEASURE to drive at night,”lot’s of deer in the night/early mornin hours round here ya’ll.” However,I got to tell you folks out there,I have a heavy responsibility relay wire harness pullin juice DIRECTLY from the BATT for the headlamps, that helps ALL HALOGEN bulbs reach their intended potential. I have experienced blinding HID retro that had “NO DISTANCE”,and halogen bulbs of a good deal of types. Phillips has ALWAYS been top notch. German engineering at it is absolute finest, this bulb is the finest “9007 type” they offer to date! If you have a composite beam headlight set up,order these bulbs and a quality relay harness and night time driving will become VERY ENJOYABLE!! The color temp of this bulb is outstanding for rainy/wet dark roads also! Would like to see this bulb become available in a 9004.
Based on the product description and such a lot of other reviews I was expecting much more magnificent lights. They were not more brilliant at all than the usual bulbs so I returned them. I’m still looking for bulbs that are more brilliant than regular halogen bulbs.
These headlights were no brighter than the 12 year old stock lights that I was replacing. I wanted something brighter for rural night driving in my wife’s 1999 Escort. The OEM bulbs were still working, but they seemed to be much fewer bright than my 2001 Ranger. After installing these in the Escort, I couldn’t tell any deviations Maybe just a bit wider light disbursement, but definitely still nowhere as bright as my pickup headlights.
So I put these in my Ranger, and put my Ranger’s oem bulbs in the Escort. (Same 9007 size in both. No deviations Escort still somewhat dim, and Ranger no difference.
At this point I wasn’t going to review the bulbs, but after one month they both burned out, no longer working.
My OEM bulbs are still going after 12+ years, but these more pricey supposedly “brighter” bulbs are DOA. A complete waste of $$.
9007 bulb options are limited and this is one of the better bulbs. Definitely brighter than the stock bulbs but not a bright white still a bit of yellow color.
If you think you’re going to observe a divergence just by looking at the front of your car… no, you won’t. Nor will you observe one while driving around well lit areas.
Where these bulbs shine is on dark roads. The low beams on my car are now decent, and the high beams now turn night into day.
Excellent value, though I would anticipate shorter bulb life simply because they’re brighter. They replaced the firstborn 12 year old bulbs in my Altima.
Don’t waste your money on these bulbs. I installed them in my Grand Prix and saw no improvement, just a dent in my wallet. Don’t fall into the hype like I did.
