Regalo Easy Open Super Wide |
Regalo Easy Open Super Wide
I spent 3 months undecided with regards to what gate to purchase to keep our small dog (about 6 pounds) in our kitchen area but still allow easy access through the doorway for our family including 2 children ages 5 and 7. Our doorway was incisively 48 inches (4 feet) broad and we wanted something that was pressure mounted so as not to have to drill into the wood. We have had the gate now 2 days and I only wish I had ordered sooner. Here are my thoughts with regards to the gate:
1) Cheap – wow – for a metal wide, step through gate, you certainly can’t beat this price (bonus – even has super saver shipping!) Easy to install – my 5 year old son “helped” me. Was out of the box and ready for use in underneath 10 minutes. Notes – we have precisely a 48 inch opening and applied both extensions (6 inch and 12 inch). whether or not you have a space that is just underneath that – say 47 or 47 1/2, I don’t think this gate will work for you with these extensions. We had JUST sufficient space to get the gate in place and tension it sufficient to hold in place. I believe they do sell a 3 inch extension separately however. For the price, however, you may still come out ahead of other gates even whether or not you have to purchase purchase Sturdiness – certainly sturdy sufficient for a pet and heavy every day utilized We used both both extensions and because of that, there is such a good deal of flexing where they connect. Not certain I would 100% trust it for use with a strong toddler, but works swell for our needs.
4) Latch / opening mechanism – I have uploaded pictures as this gate has a different latch than any of the other Regalo gates I have seen pics of. Maybe they changed it recently as I did see one review involving damage to a child from the latch mechanism. It is a very simple mechanism – with regard to fundamentals a locking pin attached to a plastic slide piece. You slide it and then you may lift and swing the gate open. Since we are using only for the dog, the slide step is overkill for us (and my 5 year old could NOT do it). To “fix” this, I merely slid the lock to the “open” position and used a white zip tie to keep it in place. Now all we have to do is lift and swing – easy as pie, but obviously still works to keep the dog in place. Step over – this gate does have a 1 inch bar you have to step over. Yes, I did already stub my toe once, however we are used to our other gate which has a threshold you step on, so just a matter of becoming used to it no doubt.
6) Width – The walk through width seems just fine. Not rather as wide as our other gate, but easy sufficient for both hubby and I to walk through without turning sideways or anything.
7) Gate percentage – STAYS OPEN – this was a key feature for me. I needed the gate to remain open at times, when the dog was hanging out with the family or was outside. It in addition swings open in either direction which was in addition important to me.
Width of bars – I read such a good deal of reviews that the bars were wider on the side – as you may see in the picture, the bars are nice and narrow. No way our pup may get through!!!
All in all, I would highly recommend this gate. I am soooo glad I in the end purchased it!
I just obtained this and it installed in just a few minutes. Anyone else reviewing this that claimed it was too hard to open with one hand in all likelihood has it tightened too far. There is a fine remainder amid too tight to open effortlessly and too loose to be stable. But it only took a couple twists of the pressure mounts for me to determine the right balance.
I read the other reviews before purchasing and conservatively measured the opening I planned to block with this gate to make certain it would work. Because, as other reviewers have stated, this is not a gate that fits openings 29″ – 52″ like the product description lists. This gate will fit in an opening that is approximately 29-32″, roughly 35-38″ with just the 6″ extension, approximately 42-45″ with just the 12″ extension, and roughly 48-51″ with both extensions. Unfortunately, if your opening falls in those in amongst sizes, you’re going to find that you can’t get a good fit. Either it’s too big with the extension(s) added that you can’t get it in place or w/o the extensions it’s not very sturdy because you have to push the pressure mounts to the uttermost end of their length.
My largest issue with this gate is that it seems actually flimsy and cheap equated to the Northstates, Evenflo & KidCo gates we have in other doorways thru-out the house. The overall construction is made of poorly done welds versus the thin metal tubes. Since I put this in an area that gets high traffic, I’m concerned regarding how long it will hold up. But I guess that’s what you get when you buy the cheaper option.
We’re going to try it for awhile and see how it goes.
I bought this to keep my dog out of the living room thence off the couch. It was very easy to put together and fit perfectly. I like the fact it has it is own gate so we don’t have to take it down to walk thru. The dog is a 65lb pit mix and doesn’t seem to challenge getting thru. It is an beautiful durable gate. Also want to mention the tension adjustments are very long which allows for an even wider fit. Very pleased with this products
This gate says it fits openings up to 50″. Because it uses an extension system, that isn’t entirely accurate. It won’t fit our 48″ opening because using one extension isn’t wide enough for the tension knobs to do anything and using two extensions makes it too wide to fit in the doorway even before any tightening. We got rid of the adjuster knobs on one side of the gate thinking we could use the knobs on the other side to tighten it with resolute determination against the wall. At that point, we could get it to fit very securely at the bottom of the gate, but it wouldn’t fit the top. Keeping it cozy in the doorway meant that it was too tight to open and close. Loosening the knobs just until it was loose enough to open and close made the whole thing loose enough to knock out of the doorway with a minor bump (much fewer than a toddler’s shaking and pulling).
I’m not certain if the adjustment difficultnesses are because it just doesn’t fit the space that it says it must and our attempted modification didn’t work, or because it’s a poor design. The difficultnesses we had with the top knobs of the gate makes me think it’s just a bad merchandise I in truth can’t see any way to keep it tight in the doorway and still have it open and close as intended. Either way, it’s marketed to fit certain applications and in such a great deal of cases, it simply doesn’t.
I obtained it this afternoon to replace an equally disappointing Dreambaby gate and this one is a flop as well. I repackaged it and sealed up the box already. I’m very frustrated with these types of gates. I’m beginning to wonder whether any of them really work as intended.
I was so excited when I obtained the product because it seemed like it would be perfective and sturdy enough. The width without the extensions was too small for the area needed. Since it comes with 2 extensions (large and small), I tried each one on an individual basis and it was still not enough. With both added on, it was too much and was more prominent than the area needed. The details on the product should be specific on the measurements with each extension added on and without. Highly disappointed.
Purchased this for my puppy. This is not made very sturdy and the handle is somewhat inexpensively made. If your doorway is not a certain size this will not fit. I have a 34 inch door way and it does not fit.
Installed this four months ago. So far so good.
PROS:
-Super easy to install
-Easy to open and close gate
-Gate swings in and out
-Kids can’t effortlessly figure out how to open it when closed
-Child safe, design prevents it from slamming on little fingers
-Easy one hand operation for opening and locking
-Shakable but not movable, and not even screwed to the wall
CONS:
-my child likes to stand on the bar under the gate when she walks through, because it’s not really flush with floor with where the base boards are placed. I see this bending as time goes on but doesn’t seem like it would compromise the operation of the gate.
-My husband had to drill through the end part so the wall attachment thingy could go through. There was such a good deal of extra plastic or something in there for galore odd reason. Minor factory defect.
I have already recommended this gate to individuals I know.
We bought this gate for our pets to keep them in the kitchen. we have another one like it but the picture is not the same as the actual gate. the picture has a pull up handle easy to use but the gate we got has a latch to pull up and then release down. It is harder to utilized We do like this gate as it serves the intention of a wide doorway
This gate was super easy to install (pressure mounted, not with hardware), and has held up so far with my 9-month-old who likes to stand up while keeping onto the gate. We’ll see how sturdy it is in a few months when he is stronger. We may have to use the hardware to install it at that time.
My only complaint is that the walk by way of portion of the gate is kind of narrow and the latch strategy takes a little coordination to make sure it’s latched properly.
